Denmark and the Faroe Islands' Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers 2026

Denmark and the Faroe Islands assumed the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers on 1 January 2026. In the area of employment, sustainable working lives will be a key priority.

Denmark and the Faroe Islands will use the Presidency to focus on strengthening the Nordic labour market model and intensifying joint Nordic efforts to combat work-related crime and social dumping. The Presidency runs throughout 2026.

The Presidency will focus on how the countries can future-proof the Nordic labour market model, which is characterised by a high degree of autonomy for the social partners and ongoing social dialogue. A continued strong labour market model is even more important at a time of global challenges and changes in the labour market needs.

In addition, the Presidency will continue the ongoing Nordic cooperation to combat work-related crime and social dumping. Free and fair movement of labour across borders is fundamental to a well-functioning Nordic labour market.

The Danish-Faroese Presidency will – in the field of labour market – be concluded by the annual meeting of the Nordic Council of Ministers for Labour. The meeting, hosted by the Danish and the Faroese minister responsible for Labour, will take place on 24–25 November 2026 in Copenhagen.
